When you've learned the maps it makes a lot more sense - you can predict where the monster is likely to hide, or on the other hand, where the best places to ambush the hunters are. Still really inconsistent in terms of fun for me though.
Yeah, that's the key for me. Sure cosmetic DLC developed post launch is fine if it's reasonably priced, but only if the game ships as freemium or budget RRP to compensate, surely? For $60+ this content should be included, no ifs, no buts IMO.
"especially at a AAA price point."
I think that's the key really. Developing this as a AAA title rather than a more appropriate budget download supported with DLC would have surely been a better idea, but no, gotta grab that $60+.
From the article: "My review copy was provided by 2K, but unlike most other sites, we don't forget that games actually cost money." Not saying that all sites should factor RRP into reviews, but value has ...
It's actually not clunky IMHO - the mechanics (traversal, aiming etc) have been really refined for the final release - but it is often pretty boring and repetitive depending on who you're matchmade with. At least for the amount they're charging!
Kinda wonder what might have happened if Turtle Rock had been able to buy their own IP back during the THQ sell off, rather than 2K squashing their bid and taking it for themselves. As a $20-30 dollar Steam download with a...
Eurogamer were the wrong site to get rid of review scores. Polygon slap on a number even when they've barely tested live network code under normal play conditions and base observations on the beta!
Nintendo really shot themselves in the foot with the naming conventions. Going to lead to all sorts of confusion especially for the casual market, I reckon. Don't even get me started on the decision to announce yet not release in time for Christmas!
Still, I've got one pre-ordered. Bring on MH4U.
Fingers crossed. I actually rated Fallout 3 over Skyrim (not to take anything away from TES5, it's still utterly magnificent!) and I never quite got the same intense engagement from New Vegas. Surely it's time for Fallout 4!
I sort of see where you're coming from (which is why I didn't disagree) because we remember classic adventure games for the humour, wit, writing and art style.
But gameplay was important too. Adventure games were like cryptic crosswords for me, about deduction, a little experimentation and finally getting into the creator's head and working out how they think.
For me this is where Grim Fandango fell down even back in the day. Some of its puzzles w...
Rage 2? Ooh, could be interesting. Not sure if they'd take staffers off Doom 4 for it TBH, but I kinda hope they do. Rage had potential and a sequel could really focus on its strengths.
@higgins78: I agree, but every once in a blue moon a game comes along that tells such a compelling story that I can overlook some shonky or unambitious gameplay. Admittedly the last time that happened was Deadly Premonition.
It's the exception that proves the rule, though. Gameplay is king, and The Order still needs to prove that it can deliver.
Hands-on reports are pretty conflicted - some foretell doom, others emerged quite upbeat, others still urge cautious optimism.
I for one will wait for the reviews and streams, but I daresay that many PS4 owners are champing at the bit.
I reckon it all hinges on the story. If it's good, then a rigidly focused game might be the best way to tell it. If not, all our focus will be on the gameplay. I'm actually excited to find out.
More than anything I wish we could save and reload! Hell, I wish life had a quicksave button - some key decisions might have gone very differently that way ;)
Totally agreed, but I'd go further and suggest they need to bring down digital RRPs too. Especially if a game is singleplayer only like The Order.
I bet they'll be keen to milk TESO some more too - perhaps they're hoping to up its profile on the global stage.
Wonder if Shinji Mikami might have something new to show too.
Agreed. Bethesda clearly must have something worth serious global attention if they're planning on doing their own presser.
I'd assume that you'll be able to choose between English dubs/ Japanese dubs and English subs.
Someone tried to do this already.
It's called the ESA.
So... yeah, erm, that turned out so well.
I quite like it when it's balanced with a notable in-game (NOT microtransaction!) cost. That way we can use it, but we're encouraged to just find our own way to save money and enjoy what we run into along the way.
"but to put a numbered score on this at such an early stage would be strange"
Oh gawd, don't tell me that I'll have to read the text and actually process it rather than glancing at a number and then commenting angrily about it.
Pretty sure that's exactly what snookiegamer is saying. "Looking at you" is an accusation!
